We started as a New York-based African Luxury Fashion e-commerce company in 2016. We worked with great African brands like Maxhosa by Laduma, Zashadu, Adele Dejak, Orange Culture to help make African-made luxury clothing easily accessible to the world.
In 2018, during the FIFA World Cup, we did a collaboration with Nigerian designers, Orange Culture and Shem Paronelli, to make Nigerian Super Eagles Inspired Jerseys. During the production process, we learned that an entire cotton supply chain existed in Nigeria.
We have cotton farms that were shrinking due to poor local industry. We saw textile mills were closing down or downsizing. We definitely saw an unemployed youth population
In order to attempt to solve the issues with the Nigerian textile industry, we decided to create a product that uses 100% local supply chain, in order to create value in the entire cotton supply chain. We created our flagship brand, Merok, with our first product, a 100% Nigerian Cotton T-shirt.
In 2019, we started our factory with 20 employees. Now we have grown to 200 employees and made over 2,000,000 garments.
Our Merok T-shirt is now a top product in its category as our product is faster, cheaper, and better than imported plain t-shirts. We will produce everything made with cotton for our customers- underwear, socks, shirts, sweatshirts, etc. T-shirt is just a start.
We believe in the value of local production. We believe in the value of the textile industry as a major factor in our path to scaled up industrialization. We will bring back the glory of the Nigerian Textile Industry.
